This event organised by the Covenant of Mayors - Europe will focus on the cooperation between local leaders and youth for the climate and energy transition. It will be held as part of the World Urban Forum in Katowice, Poland.
Many cities and youth groups are experimenting different models of participation for their local actions, but also co-creation of policies to speed up the transition. This session will be a true networking event with participants (cities and other stakeholders) having the opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss common challenges.
It will start with a panel moderated by Kasia Smętek (the former President of the Youth Council in Poland & Young Climate Pact Ambassador), which will feature Emily Clancy (the Deputy Mayor of Bologna) & Benedetta Bressan (activist from Extinction Rebellion Bologna) and Ville Taajamaa (SDGs Project Manager of Espoo) to share their unique perspectives and examples from the ground.
The initial discussion will be followed by a more dynamic setting with organised in circles or around tables. Participants will gather around thematic circles, listen to a short pitch from the circle hosts (city officers, youth activists, politicians) and reflect on whether the example can be replicated in their contexts. Circle hosts will guide participants' reflections around three questions to assess the replicability of the example in their territories: challenges, solutions, how to involve youth.
The World Urban Forum
The theme of WUF11, Transforming our Cities for a Better Urban Future, will provide greater insights and clarity on the future of cities based on existing trends, challenges and opportunities, as well as suggest ways cities can be better prepared to address future pandemics and a wide range of other shocks. It will take place on 26-30 June 2022.
